Hydroxytyrosol(HXT) is a natural polyphenol compound with strong antioxidant activity, mainly in the form of esters in the fruits, branches and leaves of olives. Its leaves as a by-product obtained from the manufacturing of olive oil.

It is considered the most powerful antioxidant compound after gallic acid and one of the most powerful antioxidant compounds among phenolic compounds from olive tree followed by oleuropein, caffeic and tyrosol.

HTX has antioxidant, anti-atherosclerotic, antithrombotic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antitumor effects. The use of HXT extract is a good strategy for use in meat products to replace synthetics additives.

CALNATURAL’s olive raw materials are produced in Longnan, Gansu, China. The quality and production of raw materials are strictly controlled.

Hydroxytyrosol Function

Excellent Antioxidant and Anti-Aging Effects

Free Radical Scavenging: Hydroxytyrosol’s antioxidant capacity far exceeds that of vitamin E. It effectively neutralizes free radicals, protecting cell membranes, proteins, and DNA from oxidative damage, and delaying cellular aging.
Anti-Photoaging: When used in cosmetics, it can inhibit ultraviolet (UVA)-induced photoaging of the skin, reduce wrinkles, and enhance skin elasticity.
Synergistic Anti-Glycation: When used in combination with ingredients such as vitamin C and oleuropein (such as in anti-sugar pill formulas), it can inhibit the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and improve skin dullness.

Cardiovascular Protection

Lowering Blood Pressure and Anti-Arteriosclerosis: By improving lipid metabolism (lowering LDL cholesterol) and inhibiting platelet aggregation, it prevents atherosclerosis and thrombosis.
Reducing the Risk of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases: The benefits of olive oil in the Mediterranean diet are primarily attributed to hydroxytyrosol, which can reduce the incidence of hypertension, heart disease, and cerebral hemorrhage.

Anti-Cancer and Chemotherapy Adjuvant

Inhibiting Tumor Growth: It has a chemopreventive effect against lung, breast, and prostate cancers, inducing cancer cell apoptosis and inhibiting metastasis. Enhances Chemotherapy Effectiveness: In late-stage cancer treatment, it can reduce chemotherapy side effects and promote patient recovery.

Bone Health and Mineral Absorption

Maintains bone density: Promotes the natural absorption of calcium and other minerals, reducing the risk of osteoporosis, especially beneficial for postmenopausal women.
Accelerates Wound Healing: Supports bone and soft tissue repair by regulating the endocrine system and metabolism.

Other Significant Benefits

Anti-Inflammation and Immunomodulation: Inhibits inflammatory factors (such as IL-6 and TNF-α), potentially effective for chronic inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and diabetic nephropathy.
Hepatoprotection and Detoxification: Reduces liver damage caused by alcohol and toxins. Combination with artichoke extract can enhance liver protection.
Antiviral and Antibacterial: Has significant inhibitory effects on Gram-negative bacteria and can also be used for agricultural pest control.

Precautions and Source Recommendations

Dosage and Contraindications: Daily intake should be kept within a reasonable range (e.g., 10-50 mg/day is recommended for supplements). Use with caution during pregnancy and for patients with bleeding disorders. Natural sources: Extra virgin olive oil is the main dietary source, but it is important to choose high-quality products (such as those produced in the Mediterranean region), or supplement with extracts (such as hydroxytyrosol co-crystal technology to improve bioavailability).
